Madonna sued over ‘Material Girl’

Posted by Sylar On Friday, August 20, 2010

A clothing company is taking legal action against Madonna, claiming the material girl has ripped off the “Material Girl” trademark.

L.A. Triumph, Inc. claims in a new lawsuit it’s been marketing “Material Girl” clothing since 1997, selling millions of bucks worth of threads under its trademark.

According to the documents, obtained by TMZ, Madonna, aka Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone, has jacked the name “Material Girl” for her junior clothing line Material Girl Brand — which launched this year.

L.A. Triumph wants a declaration from a federal judge that Madonna’s use of “Material Girl” creates “deception” in the marketplace.

In addition to the declaration, L.A. Triumph wants the judge to order Madonna and her company to turn over all of the profits they’ve made from their clothing line.

More like L.A. Triumph has ripped off one of Madonna's nicknames! This is ridiculous and L.A. Triumph is probably only made money off that clothing line because it has Madonna's nickname. If anything, they should be paying proceeds to the Material Girl herself.

AND has anyone heard of this clothing line before? I sure haven't...

    Who? L.A. Triumph? What?

"In addition to the declaration, L.A. Triumph wants the judge to order Madonna and her company to turn over all of the profits they’ve made from their clothing line." Talk about transparent.

HA, HA and I don't wish them luck in their suit.

Get the fuck outta her turn over all the profits from the clothing line. Even if they have the same name for the clothing I think people should know the difference. Unless the clothes are really similr or something. Anyway I can see how its bad if they have the same name but turn over all the proceeds lmao and yeah but maybe they should have checked into it if they could use that name for the clothing line. So I guess they do have a case but not to the point of giving them all the money made or any of the money made for that matter.

Amen Sean. Seems like they're only drawing attention to something they never should've had the rights to in the first place.

When you say, "Material Girl," who do YOU think of? Ask ten people off the street and I guarantee none of them will say "oh that clothing company out in LA..." Judge Judy would laugh this one out of the room - too bad she's only a small claims judge. lol
