Kate Moss with a gold turban, Victoria Beckham in pink polka dots and Madonna wearing designer bunny ears. The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala in New York last night lived up to its reputation as one of fashion’s most anticipated red carpet events of the year.
The annual ball, which celebrates the museum’s annual fashion exhibition, this year titled "The Model As Muse: Embodying Fashion", brought out the who’s who of New York society, fashion and modelling - and ensured many new entries into the Best and Worst Dressed celebrity lists.
The worst offender appeared to be Madonna, dressed in a garish 80s-inspired ensemble by Louis Vuitton, straight from their Fall Winter collection at Paris fashion week. The 50-year-old singer walked the red carpet in a navy blue sleeveless ruched mini dress with a puffed skirt, teamed with thigh-high black calf leather boots and jewelled leather fingerless gloves. Her teal coloured hair piece - actually designer Louis Vuitton "bunny ears" - was tied around a top knot, making Madonna look more like a glamorous cleaning lady than the fashion chameleon she usually is.
Asked to share her style secrets, the super-fit pop singer said simply: "Suck your stomach in".
The annual fundraiser, which is attracts designers, actors, models and athletes was co-chaired by Wintour, Jacobs, Moss and Timberlake.

When it comes to fashion, she has always walked to the beat of a different drum. And at tonight’s Costume Institute Gala, Madonna showed off her unique brand of fashion.
While most attendees were sporting high-end couture gowns, Madge went her own way with a short blue ruffled dress that looked like it was from the early ‘80s teamed with a pair of thigh-high zip-up black leather boots.
And to top it all off, the "Material Girl" opted for a strange blue hat that extended a foot off of her head. While it wasn't the most trendy outfit, she certainly turned a few heads.
Madonna brought her manager Guy Oseary to the "Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion" shindig, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

That thing on her head ruins the whole look. It makes her go from hot to Halloween. Then again, she took the biggest risk while everyone else played it safe.

Really funny, no else in the showbiz has this sense for fashion. It reminds me of Dear Jessie. I totally love these pictures.

Those bunny ears are a bit of an eye-sore but hey...she's brave. Plus it has to be taken within contest..haute couture is a bit of a freak circus itself. Her face ...man, she really does look gorgeous!! I love her when she tones down her lipstick.

Her face is looking really good but, sorry, don't like the outfit. It wears her, rather than the other way round.

  15. Love it. It is for the COSTUME INSTITUTE after all. Who knows better how to embody a costume than Madonna? She's made a career out of it. Perfect.
