Madonna extends Sticky & Sweet tour but not in North America

Posted by Sylar On Saturday, January 31, 2009

The touring industry is ebullient since Madonna has extended her Sticky & Sweet Tour for a second year, something she has never done. Madonna will perform 24-25 European concerts this summer beginning July 4 in London, ENG and the last one booked so far is on August 20 in Ljubljana, SLO. Paul Oakenfold is the opening act on all of the extended tour dates.
Sixteen concert dates have been released, and the London concert is the only repeat market from last year. The rest of the tour will include appearances in cities she has never performed in before, such as Werchter, BEL; Marseille, FRA; Hamburg, GER; Oslo, NOR; Helsinki, FIN; Tallinn, EST; and Ljubljana, SLO; as well as stops in Romania, Hungary, Serbia and Bulgaria.

She has booked a few cities that she has not performed in for more than 15 years, including Madrid, SPA; Gothenburg, SWE; and Munich, GER. Shows are to be announced for Bulgaria, Hungary, Russia, Romania and Serbia.

Arthur Fogel, Live Nation's Chairman of Global Music and CEO of Global Touring/Artist Nation, advised TicketNews that there is no chance for a North American extension of the tour. ”This is a first for me” Madonna said in a statement. “I've never extended a tour before. I'm excited to be going back on the road, visiting places I've never been and returning to places I love.” In 2008, the Sticky & Sweet Tour was seen by 2.35 million fans in 58 cities and grossed about $282 million. The tour boasted record-breaking ticket sales everywhere, including 650,000 tickets sold in her series of South American dates; 72,000 tickets at Zurich's Dubendorf Airfield -- the largest audience ever assembled for a show in Switzerland; 75,000 tickets in London and four sell outs in New York's Madison Square Garden (60,364 tickets).

This new run of dates will “further solidify Madonna's position as one of the top selling touring artists of all time,” added Fogel, the tour producer. And despite reports in the Australian media that four concerts are scheduled for an September/October outing Down Under, Fogel said that there is no validity to the reports. Madonna has only toured Australia once -- back in 1993.

I'm not surprised at all... it really makes me mad because it seems like that she had been to more places outside the U.S. than here. And she's yet to come to KC in any of her tours. It's very disappointing.

Well..Holland is not dissapointing @ all since Belgium and Germany is very close nearby;)

But I'm feeling sorry for U Aussies!!! She should definately include your country (it has been + 15 years))

  4. Anonymous Said,

Can we just end this era already? Why extend this bs?

  5. Anonymous Said,

I am Sorry for the australian fans !
Maybe you can write your comments in her myspace page ?

I saw the S&S Tour in germany.
I dont pay again , because the tickets are
    expensive.

I thought, she will release a new album 2010 ?
And i thought we see a new tour in two years ?
This S&S thing is boring now.

  6. Anonymous Said,

how about all the asian fans? she has never toured any asian countries (except japan)!!!

  7. Anonymous Said,

and even japan is not on her schedule this time

  8. Anonymous Said,

She should definately bring the tour to Australia. Shocking.

  9. Anonymous Said,

Well he didn't really say that Australia isn't happening, did he? He just said that reports (that were referring to a fake schedule anyway) are not true. This doesn't mean that she won't tour Australia & Asia. I guess we should wait some more time, cause all the dates are not out yet. Remember when S&S pt. 1 was announced, less than half dates and cities were confirmed!

I think that paying for the second time to see a spectacle i ve already seen is pointless... Actually this whole repeat of the S&S is soooo against Madonna. I honestly dont know if she's doing it for money or whatever, though i feel it's not a good move! At least, she should tour in Australia and Asia... The fans over there are waiting for sooo long!

Fuck you madonna, im from the uk but i though that if you were to tour again the reasons would be to tour countries that you missed ie Japan, australia,
SHE MAKES ME SO CROSS!!! i feel like throwing all my cd's and dvd's in the bin lol.
Ive really gone off her recently
so big deal you had a divorce which is prob why she is doing this for financial reasons, Just have a year off for good sake and come back with a decent album!

Can I say something? I Lurve me some Madonna, I have followed her from the beginning -but this tour (with regards to the calibre of what she has given us before)SUCKED ASS.

( I know... I just felt all of the oxygen in the world being sucked into your open mouths, but reeally- compared to her other tours- it was A-W-F-U-L)

She has Never- EVER repeated the same performances/tours in her career. (excpet for this lame shite she pulled from the promo tours) It was like it was just thrown together. My guess is that she is paying for her D-I-V-O-R-C-E ( sing it Tammy).

OK- before I am castrated- I will give her props for Like a Prayer ,and the Vogue Choreographay, but the rest was "been there done all of that".

If she is going to re-tour- bring back Confession- and throw in Give it to Me, Miles Away, Devil and She's not Me ( just dont scream it like a bitter woman going through a divorce when nobody else knows YET)

There- Ive said it. So Aussies honestly- save your money and buy the DVD. And pray to God she gets some new material and works her magic OUT on her NEXT world tour.

i missed the L.A. show due to work...bought my ticket and had to re-sell it last minute.

i've seen all her tours (at least the earlier ones on DVD) and i also think it's a lame idea to extend S&S tour. the costumes, stage designs and music selections (aside from a few good choices) were not impressive. she also looked horrid and i never say that about M!

i was hoping she would take her time to work on a new sound for her album. this year..def new producers and all.

i really do hope she hits australia and japan this time around...why just europe again?!?! i hope she doesn't embarrass herself if the ticket sales are not through the roof as i've read that various media outlets are reporting even higher ticket prices. high ticket prices during this global economy meltdown?!?! good luck, M!

Hard Candy had a short shelf life, unlike Confessions. I saw the Sweet and Sticky tour in the seventh row in Vancouver. I have always heard how great she is in concert, but not in this case. I hated all the duets with card board cut-outs and videos of the other singers - too cheesy for words. It would have been better if she had her background singers do these duets with her. Madonna please stop playing the guitar - It was great for I Love New York in the Confessions tour but in this tour it is awful. I did like the heavy metal twist on Borderline but Hung Up was excruciating on the ears. Besides there was no need to change that song, it is still relevant in its original form. Although it was good to see Madonna in person, the show lacked any form of passion. She seemed like she didn't want to be there on this particular night( maybe because of all the personal issues in her life at the time )?? Her voice was good but the dancing was terrible. I'm thinking that maybe she should dance less and sing more.I will give her another chance next time around but not in a venue with over 60000 people ( 20000 is enough ). Sweet and Sticky was a disappointment; well at least the show I saw, and certainly not worth $400. Maybe next time I will simply buy the DVD of the tour. Maybe Confessions was her peak and now it all down hill. Just kidding. I'm thinking it may well be the time for a simpler more acoustic show, because after all her voice as matured very well and she looks Great. I think the producers on this show should all be fired because they are obviously giving her bad advise. Either way, she is still my favorite bitch ( Babe In Total Control Of Herself ). I still love you M.

i´m not surprised she´s going to tour only in europe ! come on guys don´t you see our time is over ! i mean, america used to be the place to be ! in the world ! but this time is over :-( The world loves europe, and they are richer than us now ! (damed) Anyway, that s the only reason, with her kids there also, i can think about.
Have fun anyway for those of you, in europe !

To all of u who haven't seen Madonna in a few years. Shut you fucking asses up. She has signed a big record deal. Just because she hasnt toured your nation doesn't mean she wont in the future. She always makes the best places come last. You all know Madonna loves her fans and she will be there again. I seen her more than once on the Sticky Sweet tour. I loved every minute I was there. Peace out
