Guy Ritchie has branded his seven-and-a-half year marriage to Madonna a "circus" and has admitted that the pressure of being married to one of the world's most famous pop stars just became too great.The film-maker has told of how it was impossible to have a normal family life with the singer who, he says, is obsessed with her public image.
According to the Mirror, Ritchie, 40, said: "I just wanted a regular husband and wife thing. But it was always a great song and dance just to do ordinary stuff.
"She's obsessed with her own public image, obsessed with being seen as some kind of global soothsayer.
"It's silly, she's a pop star. And some of the advisors around her, some of whom have gone, made it impossible for us to have a semblance of a normal life.
"I want to be able to go about my business and live my life without all the hoopla. Unfortunately, she can't live without all the hoopla. Our marriage was a three-ring circus in the end."
Madonna, 50, released a statement on Wednesday announcing that her and husband Ritchie were to divorce.
She had wanted to postpone the divorce announcement until the end of her world tour but Ritchie said that he wanted to end the "charade" now.
The British film director has said that he thought he would slip into depression as their relationship began to fall apart but that his wife lost her sense of fun as she began to believe she was on a mission to save the world.
He called the star's Kabbalah faith a "weird religion" and said that her religion was a big reason behind the break-up.
He added: "There was a time when she used to have a sense of humour about herself.
"In the last few years she just got angry. In the end we had no proper family life at all. We were two different people, living two different lives."
No settlement has been reached but experts have said that Ritchie is likely to get up to £50 million of the pop star's estimated £300 million.
The director of British gangster films including Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is worth a fraction of that, with generous estimates putting his wealth at £20 million.
However, according to The Sun newspaper, Ritchie has told lawyers he wants "not one penny" of Madonna's estimated £300 million fortune.
The couple have already made the welfare of their three children - Lourdes, 11, Rocco, seven, and adopted David, two - their priority.

If this is true, shame on him for exposing their private lives, but it's good that he doesn't want her money. He didn't say he wanted a housewife who dropped her career. It's more like she doesn't know how to leave her work when she gets home.

I watched In Bed with Madonna yesterday and the movie is like more personal one and really you can see that M's always been the centre of everything in her life and if a British countryman like Guy couldn't bare with it, sucks for him tho. Madonna is hard to handle but that should exactly be not an obstacle but a challange for him... obviously he has seen it as an obstacle.
Let's hope he really wouldn't want her money.

I am sad for madonna. I think she is very sad lonely person.
What people choose to ignore is the fact that she has a huge obligation not only to herself but all her fans, people just don't wake up and are giving the life of a superstar! Madonna was granted this life of a megastar and feels it should not be wasted and should be lived out to her highest potentials! I do believe she tried to balance her family life, her job, and her career but now in the end she realized her fame is not to be wasted and put on hold! Honestly what did Guy think life would be like Marring the worlds most famous person in the world, I highly doubt he went into this marriage blind to that fact!
guy is an idiot and has always been so. just look at pics of him and madonna...he always has his hand on her arm like he is holding property. he comes across as very controlling...and i think it has shattered his ego that no one cares about him or his career and were it not for madonna people wouldn't even know who he is....and all the while he has to look at his wife who is known around the world, one of the top selling artists of all time. she's a legend and he obviously felt inferior and insecure about that. i think it bothered him that he was known as mr madonna rather than madonna being known as mrs ritchie.
i think his ego played a huge part in this. such a typical insecure straight man.

I believe his comments because she really does give a sh** about her persona outside in the world. I had been a fan for years and ever since she began her world saving crusade I start to lose my interest. I'm just glad Richie said it first.I don't think he means Madonna should drop everything, but sometimes being to self-convolved requires you not to bring anyone else into yourself world. Madonna is probably someone who should stay alone 4ever, because ultimately Madonna is too big for anyone other than her ego.
