Gaultier, who is famous for creating Madonna’s notorious conical bra, had models take the veil for his spring-summer haute couture collection, which was inspired by childhood memories of his religious upbringing in a suburb of Paris.
Guests including former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham and French actress Catherine Deneuve roared their approval as Gaultier took his bow to Madonna’s hit song "Like a Virgin."
Gaultier might be accused of jumping on the bandwagon, but there is a link between the showgirl and his longtime muse Madonna. Both are fascinated with silent movie star Dita Parlo, whose name Madonna borrowed as her alter-ego in the 1992 book "Sex."
And there appears to be no danger that Gaultier will ever tire of the Material Girl. Having designed costumes for Madonna’s 2006 Confessions Tour, he saw her show in Paris four nights in a row.
