Jean Paul Gaultier originally got the idea to dress Madonna as the Virgin Mary for her "Confessions Tour". The French stylist confessed it in an interview with Italian daily newspaper "Il Giornale".

But Madonna chose another iconoclast vision, the crucifixion, revealed Gaultier.

"She is so talented that I cannot discuss with her," said Jean Paul Gaultier. "But what a pity! For me every woman is a Madonna".

And so Jean Paul Gaultier has inspired to the Virgin Mary - all the Madonnas from all over the world - for his défilé.

"Did you see that I did it?" Gaultier said to "Il Giornale" after the défilé, ironically referring to his interview.
