Today is the sixth anniversary of the release of Madonna’s ninth studio album – American Life. The album might not be one of her better selling albums, but for many fans it is the most personal and all in all a favourite M’s studio release. The album provided seven top-ten hits on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.

Singles: Die Another Day, American Life, Hollywood, Nothing Fails and Love Profusion.
Promotional singles: Nobody Knows Me, Mother and Father.

OMFG!!!! It has been that long already!!! I could still remember how I used to listen to the album while doing my college homework! My god! It seems like yesterday I played the CD (actually, it is...lol) I do agree it was one of the best studio albums, I love all those ballad songs she made! My favorite tracks even up to now: American Life, Hollywood, Nothing Fails, Intervention, X-Static Process. My least were: Love Profusion, I'm Stupid, Mother and Father. These tracks were trying so hard to be mainstream. Overall I like the album! My 2nd best next to Ray of Light!

a very intimate album I think madonna reveals a lot from herself in A L...
one of my favorites : )

Although the album was kind of depressing, the remixes of Die Another Day, Hollywood, Nothing Fails, Nobody Knows Me, and Love Profusion were tight; and it could've replaced some of the remixes on the Remixed & Revisited Album!

a GREAT record that the masses dismissed because it wasn't 'fun' Madonna. There's always something for people to bitch about. I believe history will remember this album as a critical record for her in the same way that Erotica was dismissed but remains a solid recording with excellent production, song writing, and album concept. People forget that the bitch is an artist. Oh well, those who know can appreciate. Those who don't will just miss out.

agree with the above comment however the supposed commercial failure of this album burnt madonna in many ways and she has never taken such a risk since. now she's become a bit of a musical joke. lets hope she turns that around and takes the time to focus on the MUSIC and not the million other things that are going on in her life.

AL almost destroyed Madonna's musical career, even pulling off the original video was a big mistake around that time, she lost her balls & now play it same, shame.

AL is very good. Unlike most people can think is very solid and has many music influences in it. From Techno in Die Another Day, to rock in American Life and I?m so stpid, Pop in Love Profusion and Intervention, Disco in Nobody Knows me, Gospel in Nothing Fails and Orchestral in Easy Ride. American Life as Lead Single was a huge mistake. The video was a mistake even tough time proved Madonna was right, War at Iraq was a Mistake. The album should have been called Hollywood, she have addresed the war issue in a more methaforical way. No other Album has such great singles and remixes. It also has my second favourite song X.static process (After live to tell of course. AL damaged permantly Madonna's carreer in the US. But very soon US will no longer be a powerful nation, so it won't matter. AL compared to Hard Candy is a masterpiece. Mirways always did a great job. AL makes company to Erotica, both were not understood at their time. Still it can't rival with Like a Prayer or Ray of Light, because Madonna and Pat Leonard are soul mates made in heaven. Madonna is not perfect, but no one else has such an exquisite music collection. Please use it for your delight
