Madonna has been auditioning dancers for the launch party of her new junior clothing brand Material Girl.
The fashion label, which is aimed at pree-teen and teenage girls, is a collaboration between the Queen of Pop and her 13-year-old daughter Lourdes. Around 150 dancers auditioned, but only ten will be chosen to perform at the showcase of Material Girl at Macy's, New York on 22 September. In describing the label, Madonna said: "A Material Girl is a girl that is interested in fashion and interested in music and interested in fun and has a sense of humour, and is an adventurous human being." 17-year-old Gossip Girl actress, Taylor Momsen, is the face of Material Girl.

My birthday last week was such a blessing for me. I was surrounded by dear friends, my loving family, and by you.
The notes I received from the Raising Malawi family were simply beautiful -- both in their kindness and their concern for the children of Malawi. Thank you for making my birthday so special.
The note from Sylvia in Great Britain is a message for all of us:
May Malawi, and its beautiful people, be raised through the generosity of those who share your dreams. Thank you for the work you do and the joy you give to your fans worldwide. We are all better people for being connected.
I love how Sylvia echoed the African philosophy ubuntu -- I am because we are. We do share a common fate. And we must continue to dream of a better future.
That's why it's so important that we stay connected with each other. I hope you will help us raise awareness about Malawi by joining our Facebook community:
http://www.raisingmalawi.org/connect-on-facebook
Along with the birthday wishes, many of you took the opportunity to make a donation to our work in Malawi. Again, thank you all!
From Alvaro in Mexico City to Esther in Istanbul, your generous donations totaling over $18,000 touched my heart and will change the lives of so many children. I truly cannot think of a better birthday gift.
Thank you again for being a part of this community and the work most dear to my heart.
Gratefully yours,
Madonna
P.S. If you would like to donate to Raising Malawi today, I will match your donation - doubling its impact on the lives of the Malawi children.

Madonna is the secret director of Miu Miu's a/w 2010 campaign film.
The campaign film for Miu Miu's autumn/winter 2010 collection has been doing the rounds for a couple of months now and we fell for it as soon as we saw it. It stars models Lindsey Wixson, Siri Tollerød, Ginta Lapina, and Daphne Groeneveld, all decked out in the lust-have embellished dresses that have caused such a stir paired with kitten heels, patent bags and matching eye shadow.
The girls laugh, play and throw shapes to some bass-heavy dance music backed by strobe lights. And it's just emerged where they got their moves from - Madonna was on set giving them tips.
Apparently Madonna rocked up onto the set of the Miu Miu campaign shoot to meet photographers Mert Atlas and Marcus Pigott and take them for dinner. But she got distracted and ended up directing the video instead.
Ginta Lapina told Love magazine, 'We were supposed to shoot a video, so Madonna said she wanted to direct it. They said she could do it but they weren't going to pay her and she started laughing. She put on her iPod and taught us moves and we shot the video for two hours.'
Take a look at the resulting film below and see how many signature Madonna moves you can spot:

Britney Spears had big shoes to fill while filming her upcoming guest appearance in Glee – she played the part of Madonna in a recreation of the pair’s Me Against The Music video.
The Toxic hitmaker will be the centre of attention on the hit musical show when it returns for a second season, with a full episode dedicated to her music, and she began shooting her cameo role this week.
During the second day of filming on Thursday, Spears donned a white trouser suit similar to the outfit worn by the Material Girl for the promo of their collaborative 2003 track, while Heather Morris, who plays Glee member Brittany, took Spears’ part in the re-imagining.

A clothing company is taking legal action against Madonna, claiming the material girl has ripped off the “Material Girl” trademark.
L.A. Triumph, Inc. claims in a new lawsuit it’s been marketing “Material Girl” clothing since 1997, selling millions of bucks worth of threads under its trademark.
According to the documents, obtained by TMZ, Madonna, aka Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone, has jacked the name “Material Girl” for her junior clothing line Material Girl Brand — which launched this year.
L.A. Triumph wants a declaration from a federal judge that Madonna’s use of “Material Girl” creates “deception” in the marketplace.
In addition to the declaration, L.A. Triumph wants the judge to order Madonna and her company to turn over all of the profits they’ve made from their clothing line.

Macy’s delivered a July fireworks show for investors yesterday – with a little help from Madonna.
The nation’s biggest department store reported a better-than- expected 7.3-percent increase in July same-store sales, or sales at stores open at least a year.
While other retailers, including rival JC Penney, were singing the back-to-school blues with sluggish monthly sales reports, Macy’s CEO Terry Lundgren said the season is “off to a great start.”
Lundgren cited the “phenomenal launch” of the new “Material Girl” fashion line, designed by Madonna and her 13-year-old daughter, Lourdes. Aimed at teenage girls, the 1980s-inspired line will include clothing, shoes, handbags and jewellery.
On Tuesday, Macy’s launched the collection at the company’s flagship store on Herald Square with a performance by pop star Taylor Momsen, who drew throngs of girls dressed up like Madonna. Macy’s shares yesterday rose 34 cents, or 1.8 percent, to $19.78.

Madonna’s spokesperson has rebuked speculation the Material Girl has started smoking again after she was snapped holding a cigarette, insisting it was just a prop for her new movie project.
The pop superstar has stepped behind the camera to direct W.E., which tells the story of Britain’s King Edward VIII, who abdicated the throne after falling in love with American divorcee Wallis Simpson.
Filming began recently and Madonna headed to France earlier this week to direct a number of shoots.
She was snapped on location holding a cigarette and a lighter, prompting reports she had taken up smoking again, a habit she quit when she was younger.
But a spokesperson for Madonna has told Britain’s Daily Mail the gossip is not true, insisting the singer was merely holding a prop cigarette for one of the stars of the movie.

British actor Tom Hardy was so starstruck after meeting Madonna on the set of Rocknrolla, he hid in a car to escape the pop superstar.
“She left me starstruck. I did what anyone who can’t deal with the situation does: I went and hid in the Range Rover.
“I was sort of prepping for the scene in there and someone said hello to me and it was her – she’d somehow managed to get into the back of it!
“Then we had a conversation, which I’ve completely blacked out because there she was like the Mother Mary in the boot (back) of the f**king Range Rover and I was completely starstruck.”
But Hardy insists he wasn’t attracted to the star: “She’s just someone’s mum to me and she looks like a ghost. I didn’t see her as a sexual creature. There was a time when I really would’ve gone there but since (she appeared in) the Justin Timberlake video, leaping over cars and things, I just think: ‘Enough now.’”
