Alison Goldfrapp struck dumb by Madonna

Posted by Sylar On Friday, April 30, 2010 5 comments

large-goldfrapp Alison Goldfrapp was so starstruck she "couldn't get off the chair" or speak when she met Madonna.
The 'Rocket' singer admitted she finds it hard to meet other famous people - which can lead to her accidentally looking rude.
She explained: "I'm always quite starstruck. The first time I met Madonna, I couldn't actually get off the chair to shake her hand. It must have appeared really rude but it was because I was totally gobsmacked that she'd just walked in and made a beeline for me.
"I don't think I actually managed to get any words out; I just sort of froze and grinned inanely."

Goldfrapp - which also includes multi-instrumentalist Will Gregory - released their latest album 'Head First' last month.

Madonna is back on top as “The Power of Madonna” soundtrack from the hit tv show “Glee” jumps into the No. 1 slot on Billboard’s Top 200 Chart.
According to Billboard, the “Glee” cast’s version of Madonna’s l989 No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hit, “Like a Prayer” was the biggest selling individual track from the show last week, debuting at No. l0 on the Digital Songs chart with 87,000 downloads sold. “Prayer“ debuted today at No. 27 on Billboard’s Hot l00 singles chart.
“I’m thrilled to be Number One.. It’s such an honor. It makes me want to go back into the studio and write more songs,” commented the Material Girl.

The Material Girl’s catalogue sales have also surged this week. The appropriately titled, “Celebration" re-enters Billboard 200 at No. 85 – up 219%. All told, Madonna’s catalogue of albums saw a 44% jump in sales with “4 Minutes” and “Like a Prayer” gaining sales of l83% and 267% consecutively.
Rumors continue to circulate about the possibility of another episode of “Glee” filled with Madonna songs but this has yet to be confirmed by the Madonna camp.

With the great surprise of Madonna fans today a whole lot of rarely seen images of Madonna and some interesting memorabilia has appeared on Ebay today.

A seller has purchased public storage vaults at an auction by a moving company and the boxes were originally owned by Melissa Crowe, Madonna's long time assistant from the mid 80's to the mid 90's.

Among the photos there are rarely seen Herb Ritts shots from 1987 and 1989, candid photos and polaroids, set photos, autographed items and one "historic" picture showing one year Madonna on the lap of her late mother, Madonna Fortin with her dad Sylvio Ciccone and two older brothers Martin and Anthony.

Some of the private photos are also a bit risque' as in one Madonna is kissing a dildo with publicist Liz Rosenberg next to her.

The seller is making serious collectors happy by announcing he will be putting up for auction even more stuff from these boxes that were once owned by Melissa, who apparently is trying to contact the seller about her personal stuff through the pages of the same ebay website.

Tom Munro on Madonna

Posted by Sylar On Tuesday, April 27, 2010 0 comments

Tom Munro’s new book is chock-full of celebrity portraits: Jennifer Lopez, Dustin Hoffman, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Johnny Depp, Ashton Kutcher. But it’s Madonna that he seems most smitten with: Madge is on the cover, scattered throughout the book, and even wrote the foreword. Her poetic summation of the photographer’s art? “To have your picture taken by Tom Munro / Is kind of like smoking a bubblegum cigarette. / You can strike a pose, look cool / Get all of the sweetness, / And not suffer any side effects.”

Getting Madonna to write your introduction is pretty major. What is it like to work with her? When did you meet, and how did you become such close collaborators?

I first met Madonna on an editorial shoot for Elle. I think Madonna was keen to work with me as I had worked with her stylist Arianne Phillips before, and my ex-boss Steven Meisel put in a good word for me. Working with Madonna is really inspiring and a privilege. It’s rare to work with someone who is so driven, who brings so much to the creative process. After the shoot, Madonna asked if I would be interested in collaborating on her music video “Give It to Me.” This was my first introduction to film and I jumped at the opportunity. We did another video, “Die Another Day,” and I shot the tour book for Sticky and Sweet.
Also I had been involved with a Charity in Kenya called MEAK (Medical and Education Aid for Kenya) and knew of Madonna’s charity work in Malawi, so I asked Madonna if I could tag along on one of her visits to Africa. What she is doing there is quite extensive. It was a wonderful and moving experience to go with her, so I asked Madonna if I could list her charity as one of the beneficiaries of the book, along with MEAK.

Finally, I know I could never ask a photographer to pick just one, but who are some of your favorite subjects?

Johnny Depp, because he was the first celebrity I ever shot. He looked so cool when he walked in the studio I shot him just as he was. And then there’s Madonna, for so many reasons, not least of all because she’s such a wonderful and passionate person. Dustin Hoffman was undoubtedly one of the most memorable.

Eagle-eye industry sources are suggesting that the kids from Fox TV’s “Glee” may earn their first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart next week with “The Power of Madonna” soundtrack. The companion album from the show’s same-named episode, which aired Apr. 20 to much fanfare, may sell in the range of 100,000 to 125,000 by week’s end on May 1 according to industry prognosticators.

Madonna Rates Glee's All-Madonna Episode: "Brilliant"

Posted by Sylar On Saturday, April 17, 2010 7 comments

Thumbs way up from Madonna -- and Lourdes, too!

The Material Girl caught a sneak peek the upcoming "Power of Madonna" episode of Fox's Glee, in which McKinley High's Glee Club reinterprets Madonna's classic songs of female empowerment.

Madonna, 51, tells UsMagazine.com exclusively what she thought of the tribute:

"I thought the Madonna episode of Glee was brilliant on every level. The dialogue and the entire script was genius. I completely appreciated the layers of irony, especially when all those macho boys sang 'What It Feels Like For A Girl.'

I also loved the fantastic performances of 'Vogue,' 'Express Yourself' and all the messages about the boys being respectful to girls.

The entire cast was amazing. They're all so talented. I especially loved Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) and Kurt Hummel's (Chris Colfer) characters. [Show creator]Ryan Murphy did a great job bringing all these elements together.

[Daughter] Lola loved the show too. I wish I went to a high school like that...If only."

"The Power of Madonna" episode of Glee airs this Tuesday on Fox.

Madonna Gives Props To ‘Glee’ Episode

Posted by Sylar On Friday, April 16, 2010 0 comments

Not only is Madonna excited to have her songs used in next week’s “Power of Madonna” episode of “Glee,” she is also apparently hot for teacher.
“I think Mr. Schuester is very cute,” Madonna said in a statement, referring to Matthew Morrison, who plays the glee-club instructor on the hit Fox show. “And I’m glad he’s doing such a good job empowering all the girls.”
In the episode, according to Fox, Mr. Schuester assigns the kids to sing Madonna songs because he thinks the girls have been mistreated by the boys. He wants them all to benefit from the girl-power messages in tracks like “Express Yourself.” “Like a Prayer,” “Like a Virgin” and “4 Minutes” are also covered in the episode.

'Glee' 's Sue Sylvester Dons Madonna Cone Bra For 'Vogue'

Posted by Sylar On Thursday, April 15, 2010 0 comments

The "Glee" club is taking next week's "The Power of Madonna" episode (airing April 20), very seriously. Not only are they performing songs like "Vogue," but they also made their own shot-by-shot re-creation of the iconic video, starring Cheerios Coach Sue Sylvester, which premiered online on Tuesday night.
"I do the 'Vogue' video in the Madonna episode, and we replicated everything down to the set pieces, the hairpieces, the wardrobe, the lighting," Jane Lynch revealed to MTV News earlier this week at the party for the "Glee" spring premiere. "It's in black and white, and you're gonna love it. It's amazing."
And while it is surprising to see Sue Sylvester in anything but her signature track suit, she found a way to make sure she gets the best of both worlds elsewhere in the episode. "Oh, yeah, the cone bra, the Gaultier bra, I wear that in one scene. And it's the most powerful I've ever felt in my life," she dished. "Well, you know what, I wore the cone bra with the track suit, so it worked. It was a win, win."
Not only will Lynch be channeling her inner Madge, she promises that she'll also be just as scary as ever for the rest of the season. "She terrorizes everybody, still. She gets inappropriate with a bunch of guys. There's a lot of sexual blackmail," she explained. "She does a little singing with Olivia Newton John. She gets put in her place in a very interesting, cruel way by Mr. Will Schuester himself. He gets kind of rough with her, and he really hurts her feelings."

Sue Strikes A Pose

Posted by Sylar On Thursday, April 15, 2010 4 comments

Glee's Sue Sylvester is finally getting her moment in the musical spotlight, and it does not disappoint!
Ahead of their brand new Madonna-themed episode of the song-tastic series, Jane Lynch donned a conical bra to reenact a shot by shot remake of Vogue, complete with clone copy costumes and step perfect renditions of those iconic dance routines.
Plus, she's joined by some of her favourite Gleeks - keep your eyes peeled for Amber Riley's Mercedes and Chris Colfer's Kurt.
The clip aired yesterday night in the season premiere episode airing on FOX. The original video, directed by David Fincher, was named fifth in MTV's 2006 list of the "Top 100 Videos That Broke The Rules", while Rolling Stone magazine named it the 28th best video of all-time.

Malawi villagers serenade Madonna

Posted by Sylar On Friday, April 09, 2010 1 comments

Villagers serenaded US pop star Madonna late Thursday at an orphanage she bankrolls that caters for 8 000 orphans in impoverished Malawi.

A local band and a choir sang songs praising Madonna as she visited the centre in Namitete, 50 kilometres from Malawi’s administrative capital Lilongwe.

She was accompanied by her biological daughter Lourdes and Mercy ‘Chifundo’ James, who was adopted by Madonna last year from the poor southern African nation.

Yacinta Chapomba, director of the Consol homes orphanage centre which is financed by Madonna, said the villagers view the pop diva as their mother for constructing the centre which is complete with a 2 000 capacity hall.

“We are grateful to you for your kind gesture,” she told Madonna. “The people of this area take you as their mother.”

About 8 000 orphans and vulnerable children come to the centre to learn, get fed and clothed. Some old men and women also come here to eat lunch.

Madonna, who arrived on Monday to lay the first brick for a $15-million academy she is building in Malawi, was expected to leave on Friday.

A special "Glee" episode aired on the Oprah Winfrey Show yesterday with the entire cast.
Oprah also showed the real-life Glee club that inspired the show and invited the members in the studio. The John Burroughs Powerhouse performed an amazing "Vogue" performance inspired to the Marie Antoinette version that Madonna set-up for the MTV Awards in 1990, with a snippet of "4 Minutes" in the final - all coreographed by "Reinvention" dance captain Zach Woodle.

Madonna and David return to Malawian orphanage

Posted by Sylar On Thursday, April 08, 2010 1 comments

Pop singer Madonna has taken her adopted son David to visit his former orphanage in central Malawi.

Chants of “welcome home, David!” and “we love you, David!” could be heard from inside the Home Of Hope as the four-year-old and his mother arrived. Journalists were barred from the reunion, which took place during Madonna’s week-long stay in Malawi.

But the head of the orphanage said Madonna did not want to break David’s “emotional attachment” to the home.

“David spent most of his first days on earth here,” Lucy Chipeta told the BBC. “We are delighted to have him back.”

“We have preserved his room including his crib,” she added.

As Madonna engaged in discussions with the orphanage’s directors, David and his older sister Lourdes played with the young residents.

However, the four-year-old’s biological father, Yohane Banda, was nowhere to be seen. Chipeta refused to comment on why he had not attended. Madonna, in Malawi since Monday, is scheduled to leave the southern African country on Friday.

The pop star, 51, funds six orphanages through her Raising Malawi charity and is setting up a school for girls on the outskirts of the country’s capital, Lilongwe.

Madonna lays first brick of her Malawi school

Posted by Sylar On Wednesday, April 07, 2010 9 comments

FP_4802264_BARM_Madonna_050610 US pop star Madonna on Tuesday laid the first brick at the $15 million (11 million euro) girls’ academy that she is building in Malawi, promising to bring quality education to young girls.

The singer and actress laid a stone with an inscription “Raising Malawi Academy for Girls” and the motto, Dare to Dream.

“It has always been my dream to train women leaders who can help develop the country,” Madonna said during the event.

The colourful ceremony in Chinkhota village, some 15km (nine miles) from the capital Lilongwe, was attended by education officials and curious villagers.

“I grew up as a poor girl with my mother, I had no chance for good education,” Madonna said.

“It is my aim to see Malawian girls get the right education,” she added.

The pop star was accompanied by her biological daughter Lourdes and her two other children, whom she adopted in Malawi.

Madonna, who funds several initiatives in the southern African country, broke ground and planted a tree in October last year for the school, which will admit 500 girls from poor backgrounds.

Jason Derulo declines Madonna rumours

Posted by Sylar On Tuesday, April 06, 2010 7 comments

In a recent interview with MTV, singer and songwriter Jason Derulo declines rumours about his involvement in the upcoming Madonna’s studio album, posted last month.

MTV: Is it true you’re collaborating with Madonna?
Jason: The Madonna thing is actually a rumour. I don’t know where it came from. It may have come from me just being a big fan of hers, and people knowing that I write songs for a lot of today’s biggest artists. It would be great if that did happen, but for right now it’s just a rumour. If the opportunity presented itself though, I would love to work with Madonna.

Thanks to Tarn!

Madonna returns to Malawi on charity trip

Posted by Sylar On Tuesday, April 06, 2010 0 comments

r1410592516 Pop star Madonna has returned to Malawi where she adopted two children to see construction of a school for orphaned girls she funded and launch a new education campaign using mobile technology, her spokeswoman said on Monday.

The singer is on a trip with her Raising Malawi charity she began in 2006, and will watch the first bricks laid down at her school, The Raising Malawi Academy for Girls, located in Chinkhota village about 15 kilometers outside the capital, Lilongwe, according to the charity's website.

Madonna also will visit the Millennium Village -- a United Nations-backed project to fight poverty -- along with economist Jeffrey Sachsand CEO of consumer electronics firm Ericsson Hans Vestberg. She and Vestberg will formally announce an education campaign on Tuesday.

"I look forward to seeing the amazing progress being made in that community as well as several other projects that are currently underway including the creation of a Girl's Academy," Madonna said in a statement.

In 2006, Madonna adopted a son, David, from the nation, and faced an outcry of public opinion when she was accused of getting special treatment from the Malawi government for skirting laws that ban nonresidents from adopting children.

Her 2009 adoption of a daughter also raised eyebrows, and last November the school became the subject of controversy in Malawi when villagers demanded more money for the land the government has leased to Madonna's charity.

Madonna blogs from Malawi

Posted by Sylar On Tuesday, April 06, 2010 4 comments

On my first visit to Malawi, I was devastated to meet child after child who had been orphaned by AIDS. Having lost my mother at such a young age, I felt a close connection to these children. Their stories had touched my own.
In a country of 14 million, a staggering one million children have been left alone with the responsibility of raising each other. I returned home knowing the future of Malawi was resting on the shoulders of these orphaned children, and I had to act.
So it is with tremendous joy that I return to Malawi to lay the first brick in the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls. By educating girls we will rebuild this community and raise this nation.
Our academy will educate, protect, and empower 450 young girls who are Malawi’s hope for the future. We will stop the brain drain happening in so many African nations—our students will receive an internationally competitive education while incorporating local values.
As an artist, I know the transformative power of art. Malawi’s culture will be preserved and passed on through the teaching of music, art, and dance in our academy. Once instilled with pride in their homeland, young women will understand the importance of remaining in Malawi and investing in their own communities.
I will share not only my own words of encouragement tomorrow at our ceremony, but also encouragement from women and men around the world who believe that the future of Malawi rests squarely on the shoulders of its girls.
As one Raising Malawi supporter wrote to Malawi's girls, “You carry the future of your country in your school bags.”
Having seen the determination in the eyes of these children, I know they have the strength to save Malawi—they just need to be given the tools. I am so grateful for the many people who have partnered with me to provide the resources needed, including Jeffrey Sachs, with whom I am launching a new global initiative to provide access to education for all children on all continents.
It is with hope for a bright future that I am here. Tomorrow the brick I will lay is not just the bedrock to a school—it is the foundation for our shared future.
