Guetta confirms involvement in M’s next studio album

Posted by Sylar On Saturday, January 30, 2010 26 comments

In a recent interview producer David Guetta, drops a line about working on Madonna’s next studio album. Whole interview can be accessed here.

Guetta, who recently whipped up material for Madonna’s upcoming album, explains that what he loves about working with such varied artists “is that our music can reach people that are not even from hip hop or electro” scenes. “It’s just music that touches your soul.”

…..

Tell us about the first time you went into the studio with Kelly Rowland.
DG: It was magic. It was incredible. It was the first time I worked with an R&B singer. I feel like when it comes to to sound and energy, nobody can beat us, dance music producers. When it comes to singing and melodies, nobody can beat urban artists. They have soul. So it was the perfect combination. I’m now working on Kelly’s new album. I also have the new Madonna album coming up. So I’m very thankful to Kelly and Will and Akon—all those people who came to me when I was not big.

Madonna photos on exhibition for Haiti Relief

Posted by Sylar On Saturday, January 30, 2010 0 comments

A star-studded collection of celebrity photos featuring iconic photographs of Michael Jackson, Madonna, Angelina Jolie and Britney Spears has gone on display in New York, proceeds of which will go to Haiti relief fund. The exhibition, titled ”Snapped! From the Red Carpet to the Dark Side of Celebrity”, is being held to mark the 21st anniversary of entertainment news and photo agency World Entertainment News Network, Contactmusic reported.

Snapped! showcases shots from the past two decades, including Lady GaGa with British monarch Queen Elizabeth II and Madonna in Malawi with her adopted son David Banda. The collection is also raising money for charity as all proceeds from the sales of prints will be donated to Concern Worldwide’’s Haitian earthquake relief efforts.

“Like everyone, we were devastated by the horrors of the recent events in Haiti and have been looking for an appropriate way in which to contribute,” Lloyd Beiny, organiser of the display said. The exhibition runs until February 28 at Manhattan’’s Chelsea Market.

Kiss Of The Decade: Madonna & Britney

Posted by Sylar On Friday, January 29, 2010 7 comments

The moment that Madonna and Britney Spears puckered up to each other at the MTV Video Music Awards has been voted the top kiss.

The 2003 kiss, which made headlines around the world, tops a list of the most famous kissing moments of the Noughties, compiled by Selfridges.

VMA03_MadonnaBritneyKiss

Tobey Maguire’s upside-down smooch with Kirsten Dunst in Spider-Man came second, followed by Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal’s slow-burning snog in Brokeback Mountain.

Same sex kisses scored highly in the poll – Scarlett Johansson with Penelope Cruz in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and Lindsay Lohan with Samantha Ronson outside the Mercer hotel in New York, marking their couple status, both made the list.

Jennifer Aniston and Winona Ryder’s liplock on Friends, and Sacha Baron Cohen giving Will Ferrell a big smacker at the 2007 MTV Movie Awards, recreating the infamous Madonna and Britney incident, also feature in the top ten.

Romantic screen snogs with rumoured real-life couples completed the list, including Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in Twilight, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in Mr And Mrs Smith, and Freida Pinto and Dev Patel in Slumdog Millionaire.

Two formats for Sticky and Sweet DVD

Posted by Sylar On Tuesday, January 26, 2010 8 comments

News is just in to MadonnaTribe that Madonna's new single Revolver will be officially released by Warner Music in Italy in the month of March 2010.
Madonna's singles are not officially distributed in the Italian market anymore and the Fimi single charts are now based on digital downloads only. Fans know that record shops may still carry copies that are imported from Germany or the UK, but this time Warner Music decided to distribute Revolver in Italy in its 12" vinyl single format.
Because the vinyl release will follow the CD maxi, Revolver will reach Italian stores on March 2nd 2010.

In other Warner Music related news the Sticky & Sweet Tour will be their last official Madonna release so far as the current agreement between Live Nation and Warners is limited to the Sticky & Sweet release. Only time will tell if it will be Warner Music to distribute the new Madonna products from her Live Nation contract in the future or someone else will step in to handle them.
Sticky & Sweet will be delivered to Italian shops on Friday, March 26 2010.

The tour dvd will be released in Italy and other European countries in two formats: A CD+DVD combo in Digipak and for the first time ever a BluRay + CD in standard bluray box.

Madonna: Great Material

2010 - Madonna by Steven Klein for Dolce & Gabbana - 07 Leaning across a burgundy velvet divan in the leopard-print drawing room of his company’s Milan headquarters, Stefano Gabbana thumbs through a pile of xeroxed images. “This is crazy!” he enthuses, waving one page in the air. “Madonna washing dishes? This will go down in history!”

The designer may be overstating things, but a housewife performing mundane daily chores certainly represents a new identity for the world’s most famous chameleon. And the photograph Gabbana is so excited about is just one of nine black and white Steven Klein shots depicting Madonna in her latest incarnation. The singer-cum-actress can also be seen wielding a broom, peeling vegetables and eating spaghetti with her fingers. Together the images make up Dolce & Gabbana’s spring campaign, which launches worldwide in February.

The overall aesthetic of the ads is old-world Italian—with white lace tablecloths, frilly curtains and plenty of pasta—which was a deliberate choice on the part of the designers. “Twenty-five years ago, when we debuted, we made our mark with a very Italian collection, and for spring we felt the time was right to go back to our roots,” says Domenico Dolce.

Since the fashion duo first met Madonna—who, notwithstanding her Britishisms and flirtations with Latin, Indian and Jewish cultures over the years, is, of course, Italian-American—in 1991, a friendship has developed. Despite that bond, Dolce and Gabbana had long resisted approaching the star about representing their brand. “Strangely enough, there was a sort of fear on our behalf of asking Madonna to do anything businessy,” admits Gabbana. “We thought it could impact our relationship, and Madonna is one of the few people we’re really in awe of.”

This past year, however, the three grew closer—Madonna filmed part of the video for her single “Celebration” at their Milanese runway venue, Metropol; the designers hosted the after-party for her concert in the city; and Dolce and Madonna, whose birthdays are three days apart, had a combined celebration in Portofino in August. Teaming up for an ad campaign felt like a natural next step.

Still, despite all the quality time spent together, the designers retained their aforementioned sense of awe, which came through in the numerous tweets that Gabbana, a prolific social networker of late (he tweets about this interview just nanoseconds after it ends), sent into cyberspace to keep fans in the loop about the campaign’s progress: “I spoke with Steven…next week in NY,” he wrote. And later, “We are at the last shot.” Then, “M, she’s simply beautiful….

The photographs were taken in a former lay convent in uptown Manhattan. “There are many Italian symbols in the images, ones the whole world recognizes and identifies with,” says Gabbana, pointing to the cross Madonna wears around her neck as well as the brass bed, a typical sight in Sicilian homes. Food imagery also looms large. “It’s healthy and sensual,” says Gabbana. “They say there’s a connection between food and sex.”

For inspiration, Madonna, Klein and the designers watched old Italian movies and found themselves particularly drawn toBellissima, Luchino Visconti’s neorealist 1951 film starring Anna Magnani as a woman desperate to make her young daughter a star. On set, Madonna channeled Magnani’s raw sensuality in a wardrobe of leopard prints, crocheted tops, plunging necklines and a sweet floral skirt, some pieces straight off the spring runway and others customized to suit her taste. “It really didn’t matter that she wanted a black bodysuit instead of a floral one,” says Gabbana. “It’s a question of mood more than the clothes.”

Madonna, who was visited by her children Lourdes and Rocco during the shoot, went into character every time she stepped in front of the lens, according to Gabbana. One photo depicts her staring melancholically into the distance, tears streaming down her cheeks, after reading a letter from a loved one. “She was really crying!” says Gabbana. “It wasn’t fake!”

While in New York, the designers also checked on the progress of Dolce’s new penthouse in Chelsea and embarked on a five-hour shopping marathon to stock up on red and green iPhones, Kiki de Montparnasse sheets and Dean & DeLuca muffins. And on the plane home, as he started to unwind, Gabbana typed one last Twitter blast about the undertaking: “To have Madonna in our campaign is a dream come true.”

Haiti telethon raises 57 million so far

Posted by Sylar On Sunday, January 24, 2010 0 comments

Organizers for the all-star “Hope for Haiti Now” telethon say the event raised $57 million and counting.

“The public has set a new standard of giving for a relief telethon with ‘Hope for Haiti Now,’ and the donations continue to come in,” Lisa Paulsen, president and CEO of the Entertainment Industry Foundation, said in a statement released Saturday. The group is helping to oversee the funds gathered from the event.

The two-hour telethon aired Friday night on the major networks and dozens of other channels, including MTV, Bravo, and PBS, and was also streamed live online. Stars like Brad Pitt, Beyonce, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen and more used their presence to encourage donations for Haiti, following a Jan. 12 earthquake that killed an estimated 200,000 people.

The total released Saturday includes money raised by phone, text and the Web. It does not include donations by corporations or via iTunes, where people are able to buy performances of the event for 99 cents each, or the entire album for $7.99. Those funds also go to Haiti relief.

The “Hope for Haiti Now” CD is the biggest one-day pre-order in the site’s history and the new song “Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour)” by Jay-Z, Rihanna, Bono and the Edge, debuted during the telethon, is the No. 1 single on iTunes.

People can donate via text, phone or through the “Hope for Haiti” Web site for the next six months. Among the organizations who will receive funds from the telethon include Oxfam America, UNICEF, and the Clinton-Bush Haiti Foundation.

Madonna’s Message

Posted by Sylar On Saturday, January 23, 2010 0 comments

“I’m thrilled to have been a part of such a special night. It’s only the beginning of what we all need to do to help rebuild Haiti…”

– Madonna / via Guy Oseary’s Twitter

Source: All About Madonna

Backed by a choir, Madonna performed her 1989 single “Like a Prayer” at the “Hope for Haiti Now” telethon on Friday (January 22). She performed in the telethon’s New York studio, as did Bruce Springsteen, Shakira and Sting.

The arrangement of “Like a Prayer” took its cues from the original version’s instructions to “let the choir sing,” with the only non-vocal instrumentation provided by a guitarist and a keyboard player. It was a shining performance, with the choir serving as a perfect counterpoint to Madonna’s vocals.

“Glee” on Madonna episode

Posted by Sylar On Monday, January 18, 2010 2 comments

Wanna know the best time to hit up a TV producer for spoilers? Take it from me, it’s when they smell a Golden Globe coming. Read on and feast on the scoopapalooza Ryan Murphy gave me just minutes before Glee’s big victory last night…
The upcoming Madonna episode deserves to be called “very special.” “It’s big… huge. We’re shooting it now. It’s got like 10 numbers in it, and the production value is very big. We adore her and worship her, so when I’m directing, I’m always like, ‘Do it for Madonna.’” (Ed. note: Murphy wouldn’t say which Madge tune Jane Lynch’s Sue would be doing, but I can confirm that it’s “Vogue.”)

A message from Madonna about Haiti

Posted by Sylar On Saturday, January 16, 2010 2 comments

I'm sure that you, like me, have been heartbroken by the images coming out of Haiti since the devastating earthquake shook the impoverished nation on Tuesday.
My prayers are with the people of Haiti. I can't imagine the terrible pain and suffering they are experiencing. Sadly, the depths of the tragedy are just becoming known and the need for our support grows more urgent with every passing moment.
I have given a donation of $250,000 to assist Haiti's earthquake victims through Partners in Health, one of Haiti's leading health care providers. I urge all of my friends and fans around the world to join me collectively to match my contribution or give in any way you can.

Please donate to Partners in Health now:
http://www.raisingmalawi.org/partnersinhealth

Many of you will remember Dr. Paul Farmer, a founding director of Partners in Health, from my film, "I Am Because We Are." Paul is a medical anthropologist and a physician who has dedicated his life to treating some of the world's poorest populations.
Paul has been working alongside Haitians for decades, empowering them to improve their own communities. His dedication to Haiti and his transformative work there has inspired my own work in Malawi.
I realize I've asked for your help before. But when the suffering of tens of thousands of people comes into our homes and touches us the way the situation in Haiti has, I believe we are called to act.
Right now, Partners in Health is rushing to provide medical supplies and additional staff to the 120 doctors and hundred of nurses they already have on the ground in Haiti. Supplies are quickly running out.

I'm inspired by Partners in Health, and I whole-heartedly support their work. Please join me in supporting their relief efforts, which are needed more now than ever before.
http://www.raisingmalawi.org/partnersinhealth

We cannot sit idly by and watch the suffering of so many. We must act now.
Thank you for your support,
Madonna

Brendan O'Brien not working with Madonna

Posted by Sylar On Thursday, January 14, 2010 7 comments

Internet rumors have been swirling about whom Madonna has pegged to produce her next album, the follow-up to 2008’s “Hard Candy.” Among the more surprising–and exciting– names bandied about over the past two weeks was Grammy Award-winning rock producer Brendan O’Brien, of Pearl Jam/Rage Against the Machine/Bruce Springsteen fame.
We reached out to O’Brien for another story, but couldn’t resist asking him about Madonna. He good-naturedly reminded us not to believe everything we read. “No one has contacted me about working with Madonna,” he says. “Someone actually showed me something today that said that Bruce Springsteen was going to fire me because I’d worked with Madonna. It was awesome. It’s really hilarious. I’m a huge fan of Madonna’s but no one has talked to me. The internet is bulls***. You can write that down.”

Madonna, the myth, the music

Posted by Sylar On Monday, January 11, 2010 0 comments

What with all her many talents and incarnations we could almost overlook Madonna's primary career as a musician. A career that is a triumph of style and substance as demonstrated by how skillfully she has taken on new music genres and new looks... all the while remaining true to herself and her best design allies.

While Madonna's music career has always been an everchanging affair (and has gone from strength to strength for that very reason) but some elements have accompanied it all along. One of these is her longtime collaboration with the designer duo whose main line she has become the face of, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.

The friendship and professional relationship goes way back and over the past decade the designers' contribution was greater than ever. On tours, on covers and in videos. We might be feeling all excited by the new S/S 2010 images but the sight of Madonna in Dolce and Gabbana's designs is hardly a novelty.

Take the Music era and these exclusive sketches especially thought up for the occasion. In keeping with the mood, fearlessly sexy and unapologetically decked in bling.

Two exclusive sketches designed for Music's Madonna.Madonna_IntoTheArt_01The marvellously embellished one-off jacket by Dolce & Gabbana which captured just what the album was about.

Further along the styling and tunes became resolutely more lighthearted and retro but yet again the designers' left their mark as seen on occasion of Confessions on a Dancefloor. A logical choice of D&G, their younger, more flirtatious line for a fresh, flirtatious album.

Yet more recently, though before she become the most natural incarnation of the Italian housewife, the collaboration took a very strong and sexy turn first seen in the Hard Candy showcases (three exclusive dates in NYC, London and Paris prior to the Sticky & Sweet tour). This time it was black and the flirtation was most definitely a thing of the past. Corset tops, blouses with just a healthy injection of feminine lace (Madonna does strong very well but never to the expense of femininity), stunning tailored jackets lined in hot pink... Acessorised with the all important throne suit for her Madgesty.

Madonna is Swide's not-so-secret  crush (we go way back) and we cannot get enough of the latest campaign. We never looked this good while doing the dishes...

Housekeeping is the new yoga –M for D&G

Never-seen-before shots from Dolce & Gabbana's S/S 10 campaign with added backstage snaps; Madonna keeps surprising us, this time by inventing a new form of exercise.

Housekeeping is the new yoga.

Yoga and Pilates may have been the darlings of the past two decades but for those always looking for the next thing then here is an avant-gout of things to come.
The creme de la creme of the A-list are cleverly multitasking by getting on with the daily grind while maintaining their fabulous physiques.Madonna_IntoTheArt_02

Madonna is the poster girl for this new movement as seen in the exclusive new shots from Dolce & Gabbana's Spring Summer 2010 campaign. See how it's done by the pros: broomsticks are for stretching (and while doing so keeping your hydration levels high is a must) but don't underestimate the power of freshly cleaned intimates to take breathing exercises to the next level.

Should this form of exercise be too soft for you then get your heart beating faster by reading old love letters in the privacy of your bedroom...

Madonna’s songs on Glee

Posted by Sylar On Wednesday, January 06, 2010 0 comments

Playbill.com reprises our article about the songs that will be featured on Glee in the all Madonna episode that will be airing soon on Fox.

We also take this opportunity to add a little update to the list we reported: Borderline and Open Your Heart are actually mixed into one song as sort of a medley while all the other songs are performed in full or in an edit version. All songs' arrangements are inspired by the album original versions of the songs except for Express Yourself, inspired by the famous "Video Version" and Crazy For You which is presented as an exclusive acoustic guitar version.

Entertainment Weekly’s Oct. 30 cover story on “Glee” had a clutch of tantalizing scoops about the second half of the hit dramedy’s inaugural season, one of which was that Madonna had granted the TV show permission to use her song catalog for an all-Madge episode.

Now, the first trickle of information about that upcoming show has arrived: The exhaustively detailed Madonna fansite MadonnaTribe is reporting a list of songs that will be featured. The complete list, which leans heavily toward classic 80’s/’90s-era Madonna, comprises “Borderline,” “Open Your Heart,” “Burning Up,” “4 Minutes,” “Crazy for You,” “Like a Virgin,” “Like a Prayer,” “What It Feels Like For a Girl,” “Vogue” and “Express Yourself.”

Despite the professional sheen of MadonnaTribe.com, we’re going to take the song list with a grain of salt, primarily because the ten titles being tipped are double the number of songs usually presented in an episode. So unless the all-Madonna show is through-sung or will include one very big medley (not a bad idea!), we’re speculating that this is just an extended list of songs the “Glee” producers are seeking to clear from rights-holders. Given the length of time it can take to clear song rights, an extended song list would offer the show’s creatives enough options to choose from when the show eventually goes into production.

But hey, if we’re wrong and “Glee” producers manage to shoehorn ten Madonna songs into 42 minutes, we won’t complain.

“Glee,” which stars Broadway’s Matthew Morrison and Lea Michele, returns to FOX with fresh episodes April 13.

“Like A Prayer” gets a new remix

Posted by Sylar On Friday, January 01, 2010 6 comments

A few months ago MadonnaTribe exclusively reported that brand new mixes of Madonna classic songs Holiday and Into The Groove were commissioned. We were originally given "Christmas time" as a "to be defined" release date.

Now, we have just received an update on that story. The initial release date was delayed but this interesting project is still on. Another great Madonna classic, Like A Prayer, has also been given the brand new remix treatment along with Holiday and Into The Groove and all remixes will see the light of the day later this year in the UK and Australia.
