Inside W.E: Madonna filming in France

Posted by Sylar On Saturday, July 31, 2010 1 comments

Yesterday, Madonna personally chose the outfits of the 24 background actors for the shooting at the Domergue Villa in Cannes.
Multiple scenes have been shot:
        - A scene between two characters on the beach of Cannes.
        - A scene where Wallis is being chased by paparazzi, while police escorts her car on the way
          to her villa.
        - The wedding dinner between Wallis and Edward.
Madonna supervises every little detail, like costumes, scenery…
Today, the second day of shooting took place in France, but this time in Villefranche-sur-Mer. Madonna is shooting the important scenes on the “Rainbow of London”, a royal yacht used for the cruise on which the Wallis couple went in 1936…
Apparently the yacht plays an important role in the history of the couple.
The bad weather however was responsible for some delay, but Madonna went back to filming around 4pm.

Like we’ve been mentioning on AbMad, Madonna shot a few scenes at the Palm Beach in Cannes and at the gardens of the Domergue Villa.
“Madonna was looking for a location with amazing gardens. She visited the Villa, a couple of months ago, and instantly fell in love with it. She was supposed to stay there for 20 minutes but ended up visiting it for more than 2 hours.” explained David Lisnard, the Deputy Mayor.
Today, for her second day filming in France, she went to Villefranche-Sur-Mer.
She’s been shooting a few scenes on the port, including one where Wallis and Edward are getting out of their boat to head towards the old city. This really happened in Portofino, Italy, but Madonna chose to film those scenes in the South of France, instead.
The shooting ended around 6pm and Madonna is expected at the Ritz Hotel in Paris, tonight.
Tomorrow, Madonna will be in Paris, rue des Saints-Pères, next to the famous Saint-Germain district of Paris!
Stay tuned for more news…

Taylor Momsen talks on becoming Madonna’s Material Girl

Posted by Sylar On Wednesday, July 28, 2010 2 comments

Madonna and daughter Lourdes “Lola” Leon recently launched their clothing line – Material Girl – and the face of the brand, “Gossip Girl” star Taylor Momsen, said the pair are very hands on.

“Lola was here all day and she helped style the shoot and I worked with her to put the outfits together. She’s a sweetheart,” Taylor said for an interview with Material Girl Clothing. “Madonna came a little bit later and she’s totally awesome. She’s very down to earth for all her success so that was… it was good to see that.”

Taylor revealed that Madonna even leant her hand to the styling of the clothing shoot.

Madonna totally came in and intervened and re-did everything and positioned everything and put it into her own vibe,” Taylor said. ” I think we [have] a very good working relationship… I think it went well.”

The actress, who is taking a break from “Gossip Girl” while she tours with her band, The Pretty Reckless, said fronting the brand, available next month at Macy’s, is something she is thrilled to do.

“I’m psyched to be the face of Material Girl,” Taylor said. “It’s awesome. For one, it’s Madonna so it’s gonna be cool and it’s really an awesome experience so far. We just finished shooting and the clothes are awesome.”

Taylor revealed her favorite pieces from the collection are “all the bandeaus.”

Fans will get a chance to see the wears next month.

“There’s an event for the launch and unveiling of Material Girl on August 3 at Macy’s in New York City, so that’s gonna be very exciting,” Taylor said. “It’s the first time that anyone’s going to ever see the line. It’ll be great.”

Joe Henry about producing music with Madonna

Posted by Sylar On Friday, July 23, 2010 11 comments

Joe Henry in the sudioMadonna's brother in law Joe Henry, who co-wrote Madonna's hits Don't Tell Me and Jump has been asked by Jam! if producing an album for the Queen of Pop would be a good idea.

And he said: "Don't think we haven't talked about it. When she's ready to make that shift, it's easily done. I think it's just a matter of her getting to the point creatively where she is completely at peace with swimming in different water. I believe we'll get there. And I'll be terribly excited about it when it happens."

Madonna in trouble over noisy London house party

Posted by Sylar On Wednesday, July 21, 2010 1 comments

US pop star Madonna was in hot water with her neighbours over a loud party thrown at her London house when she was not there, council officials said Monday.
Staff working for Madonna at her home in Marylebone, central London, threw a party on the afternoon of June 27 that was so noisy that nearby residents called Westminster City Council to complain.
Officials who arrived at the property shortly afterwards said the music and singing was loud enough to be considered "statutory nuisance".
They pushed a noise abatement notice through the letterbox, after which the music stopped. The order was issued to Madonna, who is listed as the building's owner, even though she was not present at the party.
The 51-year-old singer, who is not in Britain at the current time, was also told she could face a fine of up to 5,000 pounds for any further offences.
Westminster City Council said the case was unlikely to go to court.
"We take the issue of noise pollution very seriously and treat every case alike and fairly, regardless of who owns the property concerned," said councillor Ed Argar, cabinet member for city management.
"If people want to hold a party, regardless of the time of day or night, they need to show some common courtesy to their neighbours, who should not have to pay the price for others' selfish behaviour."
Madonna has been spending less time in Britain since she divorced her British film director husband Guy Ritchie in 2008 after seven years of marriage.

34143_441995630338_72928245338_6579661_5735967_nTeenage actress/rocker Taylor Momsen has been unveiled as the face of the new fashion line designed by Madonna and her daughter Lourdes.

The Gossip Girl star, 16, is the first spokesmodel for Material Girl, a juniors range the pop superstar has created with 13-year-old Lourdes.

Momsen can be seen wearing dark eye make-up and posing in a miniskirt, grey sweater, military boots and an armful of silver bangles for the collection's first ad.

Madonna and Lourdes' Material Girl line will be sold in US department store Macy's from August.

The fitness instructor – who used to date the ‘Material Girl’ singer and is the father of her 13-year-old daughter Lourdes – admits the 51-year-old star is willing to try any type of workout plan especially if it’s new and trendy.

He said: “Madonna and I worked out together when we were a couple. It was a mix and match of me following her programme and her following mine. She is always very curious about what’s new, what’s hot. She is the type of person who will do anything exercise-wise. Right now she is using big elastic bands for resistance training and her cardio comes from dance.”

Madonna is famed for well-toned physique and Carlos says she knows it’s something she needs to have for her career.

He told The Times newspaper: “I think Madonna knows she sets the bar pretty high for people who see her image in the papers. But bear in mind she has a cook, a trainer, she appears on stage for two hours when she’s on tour. She makes her body her business, she really does.”

Extras' interest for Madonna's film

Posted by Sylar On Monday, July 12, 2010 0 comments

Members of the London Welsh Centre have rushed for the chance to be cast as extras in a film directed by Madonna.
W.E explores two parallel love stories, including that of Edward VIII and the American divorcee for whom he abdicated in 1936, Wallis Simpson.
It is understood one scene features Edward's shock at living conditions in Welsh mining villages.
The opportunity to appear in a Madonna film attracted plenty of interest from London Welsh Centre members.
A spokesperson for the centre, which was contacted by a casting agency, said: "I've had about 15 phone calls this morning, and yesterday was bedlam because everybody wants to be in a film with Madonna."
The centre said Welsh-speakers were needed as extras to create scenes based on Edward's visits to the south Wales valleys in the 1930s.
Edward toured Welsh mining communities during his reign, and is said to have been sympathetic to the miners and their families, exclaiming: "Something must be done". This was said to have caused unease in government circles with his comments interpreted as interference in political matters.
Edward is the only British sovereign to abdicate voluntarily, when he stepped down to marry Simpson. This was because as king and supreme governor of the Church of England, he could not marry a divorcee. It caused a personal and political storm which caused a crisis in the monarchy.
However, the relationship of Edward and Simpson is only part of the film's plot.
W.E features a modern-day parallel story in which Australian actress Abbie Cornish plays a New Yorker who becomes obsessed with Edward's decision to abdicate for his lover.
Madonna has also cast James Fox to play King George V, and his son Laurence Fox as Bertie, Edward's younger brother.
Andrea Riseborough, who played former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in BBC drama The Long Walk to Finchley, will play Simpson.
British star James D'Arcy, who starred opposite Billie Piper in Secret Diary of a Call Girl, has been cast as Edward VIII.

“We have mutual friends and I'll get a message - "Madonna says hi" - or I'll send one to her, but we haven't really connected. I'm sure that will happen one day just randomly. I've got the utmost respect and admiration for her, she's a legend. So to be in the same kind of stratosphere as her is amazing. I mean, I was there with my white scrubs on [at her concert] when I was 14!”

Madonna film seeks museum help for W.E.

Posted by Sylar On Friday, July 09, 2010 4 comments

A wedding outfit on show at a Scottish museum is to take a starring role in a film being directed by Madonna. She has asked for the dress for her directorial feature debut, W.E., about Edward VIII’s wife Wallis Simpson.

The outfit is currently part of a Marriage in the Movies exhibition at the National Museum of Costume at Shambellie House near Dumfries.

The dress was worn by Joely Richardson, who starred in the 2005 television production Wallis and Edward. The outfit was designed by Michael O’Connor and will be worn by actress Andrea Riseborough, who will play Wallis Simpson in the film co-written by Madonna.

National Museums Scotland has agreed to release the dress, which had been due to remain on display until October this year. It will be sent to the film set on Monday.

National Museum of Costume general manager Margaret Roberts said they had been happy to send the dress to Madonna.

“Our Marriage in the Movies exhibition is packed with fabulous gowns that tell a story not only about the history of the period they represent, but also of Hollywood glamour and style,” she said.

“This is a dress that was made for the movies, so when we received the request from Madonna’s production company, we were only too happy to oblige.”
