International Icon and world renowned Material Girl Madonna has teamed up with her daughter Lola to create a new fast-fashion junior collection "Material Girl” which is exclusively available at Macy’s, just in time for back-to-school season, and will be in-store on August 3rd.

Madonna commented, “Lola’s influences, you know, watching films, watching music videos - she pays attention to what's going on in the street and what people are wearing, and she's much more fashion forward and savvy than I am at this point!"

A teaser ad campaign will break on June 29, 2010 and will offer a hint of the celebrity muse for the launch of “Material Girl.” Madonna and Lola picked the muse who will appear in the multi-platform marketing campaign launching the first week of August,

Material Girl mixes hard and soft elements, like a tutu dress and studded combat boots, or an oversized boyfriend sweatshirt with a floral print mini skirt. Inspired and designed by the duo, "Material Girl" will also launch in multiple categories including footwear, handbags and jewelry and will be available exclusively in approximately 200 Macy’s stores and online at www.macys.com.

“We mix and match textures and fabrics and elements that are both masculine and feminine. It's not complicated. It's dressing in layers. It's not looking like you took too much time thinking about what you're wearing,” says Madonna.

Visit http://www.macys.com/materialgirl or the “Material Girl” Facebook and Twitter pages to see more exciting imagery and behind the scenes videos featuring our Material Girl, along with Lola’s blog on what’s hot in fashion and a sweepstakes for a chance to meet Madonna at Macy’s Herald Square in September.

Meet Lola

Madonna’s daughter Lourdes blogs on Materialgirlcollection.com, where you can also preview some of the designs from the upcoming “Material Girl” collection.

lola-pic Helluuur thurrrr, I’m Lola and this is my first blog entry so it’s kind of like ummmm….

I’m just going to use this blog entry to tell y’all a little bit about myself. I’m 13 and I’ll be 14 in October, so I can’t wait for that because I am FINALLY allowed to dye my hair… THANK YOU MOTHER!! My favvvv color is black (just because it goes with everything) and my least favorite color is brown (because it resembles the color of something QUITE gross).

I am totally obsessivo about 80’s shorts… You know the kind that makes your butt look kinda big, with a grunge-looking shirt tucked in. It’s kinda nerdy but I love it. And the 80’s are another huge obsession of mine, which is totally amazingly awesome because Material Girl…HELLO! It’s like 80’s themed, which pretty much rocks, so yeah. I’m still in love with brogues or as some people call them “oxford shoes”. I haven’t found a good sandal so I’m on like a search right now.

THINGS-I-LOVE

I’m in London right now and the best stores ever here,I love the vintage stores down in Whitechapel, also a lot of hot guys hang there just in case y’all care. Music wise My Chemical Romance is THE BEST BAND EVER for realzzzz. They are so awesome it hurts. If you don’t know who they are just… go away OR download their songs.

So, as you may know, Material Girl is coming out soon… HOLLA HOLLA! Ok and this is pretty awesome I will send a FREE t-shirt  to the first person who can  tell me in which big store the opening of Material Girl is….how cool rigghhhhhht???Annnnnnd I am 4 realz excited for the opening which I will give you the exact dates for in my next blog entry, so stay tuned for more.

So I want to know what you guys think about rompers… is that like a hit or miss, ‘cause I’m not sure. If you comment, be sure to tell me what you think.

OK but no joke gladiator sandals are OUT. They came out in summer 2008 and I was like, ok those are really cute. Then 2009 comes around and people are still wearing them so I’m like, ok whatever it’s just a phase. BUT NOOOOO. Because good old 2010 is now coming along and people are STILL wearing them, and then I was just like OK NO! It’s been three years people COME ON!!!!!!!!! I’m just like what????

Ok so I think that is sufficient for my first blog entry and what do you know, it wasn’t all like “ummmmm”. I look forward to writing my second one. Stay tuned if you don’t already think I’m annoying.

XO Lola

#10 Madonna

The Material Girl isn’t quite ready to cede her spot in pop music’s hierarchy to Lady Gaga or Britney Spears just yet. The 52-year-old singer had the fourth highest-grossing tour of 2009, bringing in $6 million a night and $138 million overall. An episode of the Fox hit sitcom Glee, which featured cast members singing several of her songs, added to her already high profile and cushioned her significant earnings from publishing royalties.

Madonna's New ''Material Girl'' Clothing Line

Posted by Sylar On Thursday, June 24, 2010 3 comments

More than two decades after she released the single "Material Girl", Madonna will reinvent her song title as the name of her new fashion collection set to launch at Macy's this August.

Madge and her 13-year-old daughter Lourdes (nicknamed Lola) codesigned the "Material Girl" line, so don't expect racy cone-shaped bras to invade Macy's racks. The line will debut with a range of clothes, jewellery, purses and shoes with plans to foray into beauty next year. It aims to capture the latest trends at an affordable price ($12 to $40) and to incorporate Lola's fashion taste.

"I really like the way Lola dresses, and I think this line is absolutely an extension of her taste," said Madonna in a press statement.

Today, Macy's released the first three sketches from the "Material Girl" collection. Wanna see?!Sketch-3-thumb-autox379-169974 Sketch-1-thumb-autox379-169972 Sketch--2-thumb-autox379-169973

Lola might hardly be a teenager but she's displayed a penchant for fashion and counts fashion designer Stella McCartney as a mentor. Alongside her mother at the Nine premiere, Lola appeared on the red carpet in fishnets, a lace tutu miniskirt, a leather jacket, black Doc Martens, layered necklaces, black fingerless gloves, and jade green nail polish.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight last March, Madonna said, "We [Lourdes and I] rarely disagree when it comes to clothes, I have to say. That's why most of my closet is being raided on a regular basis."

MG_TEASER_ADBased on the "Material Girl" sketches, the line looks to bring together Madonna's signature styles (think hair bows, lace and studs) with Lourdes' contrasting layered look, similar to the lace tutu and combat boots that she wore to the Nine premiere.

The celebrity muse for the collection has yet to be revealed, but from the ad below, looks very Taylor Momsen to me. What do you think? To further speculate, the choice of Momsen seems like an especially wise marketing decision if she'll be wearing clothes from the collection on the next season of Gossip Girl.

An additional hint on the celebrity muse's identity? This Madonna quote about the roots of the song "Material Girl" from her Entertainment Tonight:

"The thing about 'Material Girl' is that it's not meant to be taken literally. If you're a material girl, you're a girl with a sense of humour because it was always meant in an ironic way. A material girl cares about how she looks but it doesn't run her life."

Look for the "Material Girl" collection in Macy's stores and online at Macys.com this August. And coming soon, check out macys.com/materialgirl for Lola's fashion blog.

Four great Madonna photos in new Herb Ritts book!

Posted by Sylar On Saturday, June 12, 2010 3 comments

As previously reported on Madonnatribe.com the definitive book about the life of the late photographer Herb Ritts is going to be released this coming September. Madonnatribe has also exclusively learned what is the exact "Madonna content" in the book. The Queen of Pop appears in four pictures.

As previously reported here the the piece of resistance is the never before published portrait of Madonna circa 1984. This stunning previously unreleased photo is the only Madonna photo of the four in this book in full colour.
The Queen of pop wears on her head, as sort of scarf, a pair of male boxers with a floral design along with a colourful cross as an earring that look made of Murrine, the coloured glass patterns made by Italian glass makers in Venice. She also wears a another circle earring next to the cross, as the ones usually seen in her first videos such as Borderline.

The other three photos are in black and white and are candid photos. One comes from the Blond Ambition era, Madonna dances with Carlton Wilborn who is actually lifting her up in the air while she has her legs firmly crossed on his waist. Long time backup singer Donna De Lory is also in the photo, she amusely watches the scene.

A third photo comes from the early 90's. Ex boyfriend Tony Ward pours a can of beer or soda on Madonna's blond head while she has he mouth open and eyes closed. Two male models are also in the pic. one of them is grabbing Madonna from behind.

The last (chronologically) photo comes from a Vanity Fair Party, circa 1998. Cher, KD Lang, Madonna with her signature "fallen angel" hairdo and Joni Mitchell are all posing together for Herb's camera.

That's about it. The never before seen photo of Madonna is really worth buying this book!

Madonna’s message on Malawi

Posted by Sylar On Saturday, June 12, 2010 1 comments

Dear Friends,

So many of you helped bring Light to the situation in Malawi -- thank you.

Over the last several weeks the world has focused on this small African nation where a couple was sentenced to 14 years hard labor for the "crime" of homosexuality. After worldwide outrage the decision was overturned and the couple is now free!

It is my hope that this is just the beginning of our global community coming together to bring justice to Malawi.

Seven years ago I could not locate Malawi on a map. Since then, this small African nation has become the center of my world -- capturing my heart and transforming my life. Let me tell you how.

It can be overwhelming at times knowing that Malawi is home to over two million orphans and vulnerable children due to HIV-AIDS and extreme poverty. The tragedy that exists there, with children left to raise other children, is very real.

Despite the unimaginable conditions, there is a hope and a determination in the people of Malawi that is nothing short of contagious. Every trip to Malawi I leave feeling more inspired by the progress and more hopeful than before.

With the smallest actions, I have witnessed enormous change -- and that's why I'm inviting you to continue to help me transform Malawi.

Watch the video of the transformation beginning in Malawi:

http://www.raisingmalawi.org/malawivideo

The construction of the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls is just one example of the life changing projects happening right now in Malawi.

I am asking you to partner with me. I know that, together, we will raise Malawi.

Thank you for your support.

Love,

Madonna

James D'Arcy joins Madonna's 'W.E.'

Posted by Sylar On Thursday, June 03, 2010 3 comments

Rising Brit star James D’Arcy has been cast in Madonna’s second directorial effort, “W.E.,” as King Edward VIII.
D’Arcy, who has starred alongside big names like Russell Crowe and Daniel Craig, will take center stage in the multihyphenate’s biopic about the affair between Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson that led to the Brit monarch abdicating the throne to marry his lover.
He joins Andrea Riseborough, Abbie Cornish and Oscar Isaac in the pic, which Madonna penned with Alek Keshishian, who directed the queen of pop in “Truth or Dare.”
Riseborough, best known for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in the BBC drama “The Long Walk to Finchley,” will play the role of Wallis, while Cornish and Isaac will play a contemporary couple in the present day. Cornish plays the role of Wally, a woman in a loveless marriage, who meets Isaac’s Russian character, Evgeni at a Sotheby auction.
Her belief in the great love story of Wallis and Edward provides the backdrop for the tales of both romances.
Former Miramax exec Colin Vaines will produce the pic, which will begin shooting in Britain on July 4, while Kris Thykier, producer of “Kick Ass” and “Harry Brown,” will executive produce.
Vaines said he feels good about the “fresh, young” cast now on board the project.
We’ve found the right cast for this picture now,” said Vaines. “The addition of James is wonderful as he’s got such charisma and possesses a real regal quality that he can capture. There was a real chemistry between him and Andrea and I feel very good about the cast we’ve got.”
D’Arcy has previously had roles in “Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World,” “Flashbacks of a Fool” and “An American Haunting.” He also stars alongside Sean Bean in the upcoming “Age of Heroes” and recently wrapped “The Flight of the Swan.”

Guetta: 'I was unlucky with Madonna'

Posted by Sylar On Wednesday, June 02, 2010 12 comments

David Guetta has suggested that record label issues may prevent the release of his collaboration with Madonna.
The DJ and producer confirmed to The Guardian that he and Madonna recently wrote and recorded a track together.
Guetta said: "It's a tricky situation, because she's now out of a record deal. We don't even know what's going to happen with it. It's a huge record, so it's really frustrating.
"The track is part of the Warner deal, but it's not on the album, so why would they invest any money in it? I was really unlucky with that one."
