Touching clip from the past - Herb Ritts eulogy

Posted by Sylar On Monday, August 31, 2009 2 comments

A very touching video has just appeared on YouTube. It's the nine minute long eulogy Madonna pronounced for her long time friend, the late photographer Herb Ritts, during a memorial service in 2003.

An exclusive, first hand, telling of intimate moments of the friendship between two among the greatest artists of our times.

“It’s So Cool” credits

Posted by Sylar On Monday, August 31, 2009 8 comments

Just a week after the writers of Revolver were made public, now we find another new Madonna song listed at Warner Chappell: It's So Cool, which has been long rumoured across the online Madonna community. It's a song from the American Life sessions, which means it's no surprise that Mirwais Ahmadzaï and Monte Pittman are credited alongside Madonna.

It's Monte's second songwriting credit, after Easy Ride. It's So Cool is expected to be an iTunes pre-order exclusive bonus track for Celebration, reworked by Paul Oakenfold. On the other hand, there's no sign of the song "Broken (I'm Sorry)" from the Oakenfold sessions, which most likely means this track is being kept in the vaults and was not submitted to Warner.

Madonna tours Jewish holy sites in Jerusalem

Posted by Sylar On Monday, August 31, 2009 4 comments

20090830-madonna-jesus-luz-western-wall-jerusalem-02 The Material Girl has opened a visit to the Holy Landwith a spiritual touch.

Madonna headed to Jerusalem's Old City late Sunday where she toured an ancient tunnel near the Western Wall — the holiest site where Jews can pray.

The 50-year-old pop star arrived in a black Mercedes van and was escorted into the tunnel by police. She made no comment to reporters and was whisked away about a half hour later.

Madonna isn't Jewish, but she's a follower of Jewish mysticism and has even taken the Hebrew name Esther.

She arrived early Sunday for a pair of concerts this week. It will be her first performance in Israel since 1993, though she came on private pilgrimages in 2004 and 2007.

Madonna is also set to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday.

Hindu & Jewish leaders applaud Madonna

Posted by Sylar On Friday, August 28, 2009 0 comments

Hindu and Jewish leaders in Madonna’s native America have applauded Madonna’s efforts.

Hindu statesman Rajan Zed and Rabbi Jonathan B. Freirich have joined forces to commend Madonna for at least trying to get a message across.

A joint statement from the two religious leaders reads, “Romania and Europe should apologize for the blatant show of prejudice shown towards Roma brothers and sisters when Madonna spoke against Roma discrimination during her concert in Bucharest.

“The alarming condition of Roma people is a social blight for Europe and the rest of the world as these people face social exclusion, racism, substandard education, hostility, joblessness, rampant illness, inadequate housing, lower life expectancy, unrest, living on desperate margins, language barriers, stereotypes, mistrust, rights violations, discrimination, marginalisation, appalling living conditions, prejudice, human rights abuse and racist slogans.

“It’s like an undeclared apartheid… The Roma issue should be one of the highest priorities of the human rights agenda of Europe and (the) world.”

Zed and Rabbi Freirich are now urging other celebrities to take Madonna’s example and use their status to highlight “the apartheid conditions faced by about 15 million Roma people in Europe”.

The Roma people migrated to mainland Europe from India in the 11th century; they are believed to have their roots in the Indian subcontinent.

Madonna booed in Bucharest for defending Gypsies

Posted by Sylar On Thursday, August 27, 2009 26 comments

Thousands of fans have booed pop star Madonna after she spoke out against the discrimination of Gypsies in eastern Europe during one of her concerts.

Madonna paused in the two-hour concert to say that Gypsies, also known as Roma, were discriminated against in eastern Europe. She said that made her “sad” and nobody should be discriminated against.

Thousands in the crowd of 60,000 booed her. She did not react.

Roma musicians and a Roma dancer were featured in her show, held just yards from the giant palace of ex-communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. Their performances were applauded by the crowd.

Source: Associated Press

Here’s a video of it: YouTube

Madonna stated in full:
'I've never been to Romania before and I am happy to be here, but I found out that there is a lot of discrimination against gypsies in Eastern Europe and that makes me very sad, especially because we believe in acceptance, gypsies, homosexuals, people that are different. Everyone must be treated the same, don't forget that.'

“Revolver” credits

Posted by Sylar On Monday, August 24, 2009 0 comments

facebookjsn Warner Chappell, the database of registered songs now lists new Madonna song Revolver. The songwriting credit is shared between six songwriters. Contrary to fan speculation, Madonna does get a writer credit, which means her version will not be identical to the leaked demo.

The writers are: Carlos Centel Battey, Steven Andre Battey, Dwayne Carter, Justin Scott Franks, Brandon Kitchen & Madonna. The song is produced by Madonna and Frank E and is featuring as a bonus track on the double disc version of Celebration.
We'd like to point out that Dwayne Carter is hip hop superstar Lil Wayne, which confirms his involvement in the track.

Get ready for the Celebration video

Posted by Sylar On Wednesday, August 19, 2009 6 comments

Director Jonas Akerlund has been working on a couple of different edits of the music video and one is now using the fan loved poppy Album Version of the song. The video should be ready to be released in about ten days. As previously reported the video features several guest appearances from the likes of Jesus Luz as the DJ, Lourdes Leon as the MTV Like A Virgin bride and dancers from the Sticky & Sweet tour.

Source: MadonnaTribe

According to a very reliable member of Madonna Fanzine, Anna_Henstridge, Madonna undresses Jesus in the music video. She wears sunglasses that she wore at her birthday celebration and a wig, reminiscent of her Ariake look. M rocks the tight short glam black skirt. hoop earrings and black fingerless gloves.

Source: MadonnaFanzine

British DJ and remixer extraordinaire Paul Oakenfold would like to clear something up: He has never been naked in a recording studio with Madonna. “That was a joke,” he laughs, referring to Madonna’s April 23rd tweet via manager Guy Oseary’s account (@guyoseary): “paul oakenfold is running around the studio naked.. because i wont put the air on.. its hot in here.. but the music is hotter!!!! -M.”

But Oakenfold, who recently released Perfecto: Vegas, a two-disc set celebrating his popular residency at the Palms Casino, from which he recently took a break to join Her Madgesty’s Sticky and Sweet Tour in Europe, is dead serious about getting people on the dance floor with“Celebration.” The song, which he co-wrote with Madonna for her upcoming greatest hits package (in stores Sept. 29), is he says, “meant to be positive in the respect that you can do it, let’s have a good time, let’s enjoy ourselves.”

And while the song, which leaked online in July, has a party-time feel, Oakenfold tells us that he and “M,” as he calls her, were all business during their first in-studio collaboration. “It was very focused, very professional,” he recalls. “When you step up to this level, it’s an interesting process because you’re on someone else’s time, and you respect that. And that’s really what it’s about. So I was extremely organized when I went in there with the team that I had.”  And he’s pretty proud of the result: “It’s definitely the sound of tomorrow. Which always becomes the sound of today.”

More details about new CD tracklist

Posted by Sylar On Monday, August 17, 2009 41 comments

Unlike The Immaculate Collection, released in 1990 with all brand new remixed edits in the great Q sound, Celebration unfortunately will not contain new remixed edits but mostly already released original Album Versions and Radio Edits of the hits plus some versions lifted from The Immaculate Collection.

Probably a bit more of a effort could have been put in the production of this project, especially after how badly the previous collection GHV2, completely made of recycled old materials, has been received by the diehard fans, but at least we have the two great singles, Celebration and Revolver that partly make up for this lack of originality.

And here are the exclusive details about the double cd track list.

CD 1:
01) Hung Up - LP Version
02) Music - LP Version
03) Vogue - Immaculate Collection Version
04) 4 Minutes - LP Edit
05) Holiday - LP Version
06) Like A Virgin - Immaculate Collection Version

14) Borderline - Immaculate Collection Version
15) Secret - LP Edit
16) Erotica - LP Edit
17) Justify My Love - LP Version
18) Celebrate

CD 2:
01) Dress You Up - LP Edit
02) Material Girl - LP Version
03) La Isla Bonita - LP Version
04) Papa Don't Preach - LP Version
05) Lucky Star - LP Edit
06) Burning Up - LP Version
07) Crazy For You - Immaculate Collection Version

15) Don't Tell Me - LP Edit
16) Live To Tell - LP Version
17) Cherish - Immaculate Collection Version
18) Revolver

Update: MadonnaTribe updated their article with some corrected info. We are getting the LP version of Like A Prayer. Also the places of the new tracks, Celebration and Revolver are reversed. Now Revolver ends the first disc and Celebration the second.

Here’s the part where Madonna is mentioned:

Famous people she’d like to meet: The unlikely combination of...Madonna and Donny Osmond. Of the former, she says, "I like that she is a diverse pop star and controversial." Of the squeaky-clean latter? "I bought all of the Osmonds' records and liked Donny's singing and his boyish charm."

On Hot Dance Airplay, "Celebration"—the first single/title track from Madonna's upcoming greatest-hits album (due Sept. 29)—starts the party at No. 7, the chart's highest debut since Dec. 13, 2008, when Beyonce's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" also debuted at No. 7. Since the Dance Airplay chart launched Aug. 16, 2003, only two other singles have bowed higher: Ciara's "1, 2 Step" (No. 5 on Jan. 20, 2005) and Madonna's "4 Minutes" (No. 5 on April 5, 2008) . . . "Celebration" also enters the Hot Dance Club Songs chart at No. 29—the diva's 56th Club hit. The entry extends her lead as the artist with the most hits on this chart.

The news has been confirmed this morning confirmed by the Croatian Agency partnering with Live Narion for the organization of the event, Lupa Promotion Ltd. From Live Nation's side it has been reported that the concerts announced for the period before and after the Ljubljana concert (Munich, August 18 and Budapest, August 22) will take place as planned.

All ticket buyers will be able to refund the purchase at the original points of sale events from Monday, August 17.

Lupa Promotion, the local partner for the promotion of the concert regrets this situation, since the arrival of the Queen of pop at the Ljubljana Hippodrome would have certainly set a new milestone in the history of the organization of concert events in Slovenia.

Great news for the vinyl lovers, as the listings at Warner Music Germany indicate that the new Madonna single will also be released as a 12" Picture Disc.
"Celebration" is therefore slated to follow the path of the most recent Madonna single release, something the collectors will certainly be pleased of.

Madonna – Kincsem Park

Posted by Sylar On Wednesday, August 05, 2009 1 comments

Live Nation Hungary has accepted the apology of NUSI, concerning the problems that have arisen about the booking of the Puskas Ferenc Stadium for the concert of Madonna on August 22nd, and hereby informs the audience that the show will remain at the original venue, the Kincsem Park Hippodrome.

Live Nation remains perplexed by the position of the President of the Hungarian Football Federation, who refused our offer of grass replacement at the Puskas Ferenc Stadium, which would clearly have been in the best interests of Hungarian football. But the most important thing now is that the show must go on, and we must accept that the time is not sufficient to try to solve the issues, in the face of such inflexibility. Unfortunately though, this inflexibility could have serious consequences for the future of major concerts in Hungary.
We would like to take this opportunity to say a very special thanks to the management of Kincsem Park, who have shown commendable willingness to help throughout this affair. We look forward to welcoming the Madonna audience to an unforgettable concert at their excellent venue.
All tickets remain valid to the Kincsem Park with the original conditions.
